ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI – A Michigan man has been charged with second-degree murder following the discovery of his mother’s brutal killing, allegedly with a broken broomstick, law enforcement officials said. The chilling crime unfolded after the suspect’s brother found their mother fatally wounded in their home, igniting a violent confrontation between the siblings.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido described the crime as deeply unsettling in a statement released Monday, emphasizing a commitment to pursuing justice rigorously. Armando Streeter, aged 46, was arraigned Tuesday and also faces charges of assault with intent to murder—both charges could result in a life sentence.
Streeter, who reportedly struggles with mental health issues, had been involved in a previous domestic assault case involving his mother, Loretta Streeter, last November. However, the charges in that incident were not upheld for undisclosed reasons.
Authorities urged the court to deny bond for Streeter, citing him as a significant threat to society and his brother, William Streeter. William was also a victim in the recent incident, allegedly attacked by Armando at their shared residence on 11 Mile Road.
Detective Sgt. Brad Benac recounted how William Streeter called the police after discovering their 76-year-old mother with a broomstick embedded in her eye. Video and audio evidence from the scene reportedly indicated signs of a struggle earlier that day.
Testifying in court, Benac detailed the harrowing events, explaining that a female voice could be heard in the recordings pleading for assistance during the violent encounter. It was during William’s call to 911 that Armando allegedly attacked him with a makeshift weapon, attempting to strangle him.
These actions led to the additional assault charge against Armando. The St. Clair Shores District Court, under Judge Craigen Oster, decided against setting bail, keeping Streeter in custody ahead of a scheduled Probable Cause Conference on April 15.
