TRENTON, N.J. — A local man has been arrested in connection with a violent sexual assault that has left the victim hospitalized, according to Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey. The suspect, 23-year-old Jahassan Jones, was taken into custody after an extensive investigation by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and the Trenton Police Department.
The alleged assault took place on the evening of May 6, when authorities say Jones attacked the victim after she refused his advances. Reports indicate that he struck her multiple times with a rock, causing her to fall to the ground, before using a shard of glass to inflict further harm. Following the physical assault, Jones reportedly removed her clothing and sexually assaulted her.
Jones faces serious charges, including three counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, as well as two counts each of second-degree and third-degree aggravated assault involving a weapon. He is also charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, as heroin was discovered in his possession at the time of his arrest.
In response to the severity of the charges, prosecutors have requested that Jones be detained pending trial, emphasizing concerns for public safety and the gravity of the alleged offenses. The victim is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital for significant injuries sustained during the attack.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. The Special Victims Unit has made contact information available for those who may have insights that could assist the ongoing inquiry.
As this case unfolds, it underscores the broader issue of violence against women and the importance of community vigilance in ensuring that similar incidents are reported promptly and effectively.
