Arrest of Businessman’s Shooter Reveals Troubling Criminal Past in Dubli Village Tragedy

AMRITSAR, India — Authorities have arrested a shooter in connection with the murder of a local businessman who was gunned down earlier this month. Jaswant Singh Bittu, an ex-serviceman, was killed on the morning of May 3 while seated in his shop in Dubli village under the jurisdiction of the Sadar police station.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Rana, the alleged shooter, identified as Taranbeer Singh, also known as Tannun, is a resident of Bhikhiwind. At the time of the crime, he was residing in Tung Pai, a locality in Mohkampur, Amritsar. Following the incident, Singh reportedly fled the scene on a motorcycle, but his escape was short-lived.

Police action led to the recovery of two illegal firearms, the motorcycle used during the shooting, and the clothing worn by Singh at the time of the incident. These findings not only assist in the ongoing investigation but also highlight the serious nature of the crime.

A case has been lodged against Singh, encompassing various sections of the BNS as well as multiple charges under the Arms Act. This is not Singh’s first run-in with the law; he is already facing two previous criminal charges related to different offenses under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.

The investigation has underscored community concerns about rising violence and the implications for local safety. Law enforcement officials are working diligently to ensure that justice is served and to reassure residents that measures are being taken to address such incidents.

As the details surrounding this case continue to unfold, both residents and officials are keeping a close watch, reflecting a community shaken yet determined to reclaim peace.
