AUKI, Solomon Islands — Authorities have arrested a 40-year-old man believed to be the main suspect in an assault on a worker from the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation at a campsite in northern Malaita Province.
Local officials reported that the arrest took place on the morning of February 12, with community members aiding the police in capturing the suspect at his village home. The provincial police commander, Superintendent Michael Ramosaea, noted that attempts to apprehend the suspect had been ongoing but previously unsuccessful.
Superintendent Ramosaea highlighted that the man was taken into custody without incident and is now being held at the Auki Correctional Centre. Following an alleged attack on December 9, 2025, the suspect reportedly continued to make threats against both CCECC employees and law enforcement personnel, raising concerns in the community.
The alleged assailant faces charges of grievous harm under Section 226 of the Penal Code for his actions. He is expected to make an appearance in court at a date yet to be determined. Additionally, Ramosaea indicated that the suspect is facing charges related to previous incidents for which he failed to attend court.
