Bengaluru, India: Authorities in Karnataka have arrested at least 13 individuals in connection with an attack on the Mysuru city police station, signaling a swift response to the violent incident. Home Minister G. Parameshwara has emphasized the need for decisive action against the rioters, with more arrests anticipated as investigations unfold.
Speaking to the media in Bengaluru, Parameshwara reiterated the government’s commitment to taking “ruthless action” against those involved in the attack. CCTV footage has been instrumental in identifying suspects, with police sources confirming the arrest of 13 individuals and hinting at further arrests in the near future.
The incident, which saw a mob of over 1,000 individuals gathering outside the police station on February 9, resulted in extensive damage to police property and posed a serious threat to law enforcement officers. In response to the escalating situation, the City Crime Branch (CCB) police have joined the investigation, adding their expertise to the efforts to bring the culprits to justice. Furthermore, Karnataka Police have initiated a manhunt for Mufti Mushtaq Maqbooli, an Islamic religious leader accused of delivering a hate speech that allegedly incited the attack on the police station. The inflammatory statements made by Maqbooli, captured in a video clip, have raised alarm bells, prompting authorities to intensify their search for the religious leader.
Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar’s visit to the scene in Mysuru underscored the government’s commitment to holding those responsible for the violence accountable.
