Muscat, Oman – A tragic incident unfolded near a mosque in Oman’s Wadi Al-Kabir region, resulting in the deaths of at least six individuals, as reported by the Royal Oman Police. The attack, which took place at the Imam Ali mosque during the observance of Ashura, led to the loss of various lives, including one police officer, and injuries to over two dozen individuals of different nationalities, with four Omani first responders among them.
The perpetrators, three in total, were identified and killed during the exchange with the police, as confirmed by authorities. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that at least four Pakistani nationals lost their lives in the attack, with another 30 sustaining injuries and currently receiving treatment at hospitals in the area. The ministry strongly condemned the incident, labeling it as a “dastardly terrorist attack.”
In response to the tragedy, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep sorrow over the terrorist act and extended his condolences to the families of the victims. He instructed the Pakistan Embassy in Muscat to provide all necessary assistance to the injured and personally visit those hospitalized. Furthermore, the US embassy in Muscat issued a security alert for American citizens, urging them to remain vigilant, follow local news updates, and comply with the directives of local authorities.
Indian citizens were also impacted by the violence, with one individual losing their life and another sustaining injuries, as confirmed by India’s embassy in Muscat. The Royal Oman Police have completed military and security procedures in response to the attack and are currently conducting an ongoing investigation to uncover the motives behind this tragic event.
