Baltimore, Maryland – A 19-year-old, Jabre Griffith, faces charges of first-degree murder in a case involving two shootings in 2023 that resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to six others in Baltimore. The trial, which began on November 4th in Baltimore Circuit Court, spanned a week with the prosecution presenting 23 witnesses to provide evidence in the case.
The shootings, which occurred on March 23, 2023, were geographically separated by almost 24 hours and seven miles. The first incident took place outside a gas station in the Midtown-Edmondson neighborhood, where three gunmen opened fire, resulting in injuries to five men and the death of Ernest Hall, a respected local boxer.
Detectives linked a blue sedan seen at the scene to Jabre Griffith, who was later found to be in possession of a white Infiniti that was observed at a different shooting location the following day. The second shooting, outside a Pizza Boli’s in the Homeland area, resulted in the death of Micah Strong and injuries to a 25-year-old woman.
During the trial, a firearms examiner testified that ballistics evidence suggested the same gunmen were involved in both incidents. The prosecution argued that Griffith’s phone records, along with DNA evidence found on gloves at the scene, indicated his involvement in the crimes.
In defense, Griffith’s attorney emphasized the lack of eyewitness identification linking his client to the shootings, pointing out the possibility that someone else could have used Griffith’s vehicle on the days of the incidents. However, prosecutors highlighted the presence of rap lyrics on Griffith’s phone, allegedly describing the shootings, as compelling evidence against him.
As the jury began deliberations in the case, both sides presented contrasting narratives regarding Griffith’s role, leaving the decision in the hands of the jurors to determine his guilt or innocence in the tragic events that unfolded in Baltimore in 2023.
