Bartender surrenders: Beaver County VFW attack leads to civil lawsuit and criminal charges

Aliquippa, Pennsylvania – A civil lawsuit has been filed against the owners of the Aliquippa VFW over a ‘brutal’ attack that occurred inside the bar earlier this year, stirring up legal action in the community. Attorney Todd Hollis is spearheading the representation of Preston Coleman, who was the victim of the assault, in the lawsuit against the Veterans Home Association of Aliquippa, the operators of the VFW lodge. The incident involved a vicious and unprovoked attack on Coleman, which has led to criminal charges filed against three individuals.

One of the accused, Brett Ours, has been charged with attempted homicide for assaulting and strangling Coleman. Security footage from inside the VFW shows Ours repeatedly punching Coleman before escalating the violence by kicking him in the head when he tried to escape. The assault went on for around thirty minutes until Coleman lost consciousness and had to be hospitalized, where he was placed in a medically-induced coma. The severity and brutality of the attack have sparked outrage and demands for justice in the community.

In a disturbing turn of events, a second man, Ronald Brown, joined the assault when he walked into the bar and saw Coleman being beaten. Brown, witnessing Coleman’s defenseless state, also engaged in the violent attack. A third suspect, Ireland Brown, who is Ronald Brown’s daughter, was arrested in connection to the incident. Shockingly, Ireland, who was working as a bartender at the VFW the night of the attack, not only failed to call for help but also assisted Ours in evading capture by providing crucial aid in wiping away evidence.

The lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of the Veterans Home Association for failing to protect patrons like Coleman from intentional harm, holding them accountable for the tragic events that unfolded. The failure of Ireland Brown to seek assistance during the assault has further exacerbated the situation, leading to a demand for damages against the association. District Attorney Nate Bible is actively investigating the incident and has hinted at the possibility of pursuing hate crime charges, underscoring the gravity of the attack and its implications.

The legal proceedings surrounding the case underscore the importance of addressing acts of violence and holding those responsible accountable for their actions. As the investigation continues, the community awaits justice for the brutal attack that has left a lasting impact on all those involved.
