NEW YORK – The hunt for the killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was ambushed outside a hotel in Midtown Manhattan, has expanded beyond the city’s borders. The FBI is now involved, offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s capture and conviction, in addition to the NYPD’s $10,000 reward.
Authorities have pieced together a timeline of the suspect’s movements through the city, as he used a fake ID and paid in cash during his stay. Surveillance cameras captured the suspect’s actions, including a moment when he briefly pulled down his mask and smiled at a hostel employee.
The suspect arrived in New York City on a Greyhound bus from Atlanta, staying at a hostel until the morning of the shooting. He was seen purchasing items at a nearby Starbucks before the attack outside the Hilton hotel, where the annual investor conference for United Healthcare’s parent company was taking place.
After the shooting, the suspect fled on a bicycle through Central Park, discarding a backpack along the way. Investigators have uncovered clues, such as markings on ammunition left at the scene, potentially linking the attack to issues within the insurance industry.
Authorities believe the suspect left the city on a bus but have yet to identify him publicly. Despite recovering fingerprints and sending items for DNA testing, the investigation remains ongoing, with police continuing to search Central Park for evidence.
As the search intensifies and various leads are pursued, the community remains on edge, awaiting justice for the brutal attack on a prominent CEO.
