Confrontation Escalates to Tragedy: Man Shot Dead Over Bathroom Line Dispute in Phoenix Gas Station

Phoenix, Arizona — A confrontation over a bathroom line at a local gas station escalated into a deadly shooting, leaving a 52-year-old man dead and a 25-year-old suspect in custody. The incident occurred on the morning of January 16 at a QuikTrip located near 44th Street and Oak Street.

Danny Kaster was reportedly shot multiple times during the altercation, according to law enforcement officials. Although he was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. Deondre Franklin has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the incident.

The conflict began when Kaster, who was in line for the restroom, encountered Franklin, who allegedly tried to bypass the line. Witnesses reported that Kaster informed Franklin about the queue, leading to escalating tensions between the two men. The situation turned confrontational when Franklin allegedly asked Kaster what he was looking at, prompting a heated exchange.

After Kaster and Franklin exited the restroom, witnesses reported hearing gunfire. One individual described seeing Franklin brandishing a firearm while Kaster attempted to wrest it away from him. Several witnesses noted that Franklin fled the scene in a gray sedan with a female accomplice following the shooting.

Surveillance footage has surfaced, reportedly capturing the moment Franklin discharged his weapon multiple times at Kaster. Franklin later made a call to his family, explaining that he had shot someone during an argument. His mother encouraged him to turn himself in, which he did the following day.

During police interviews, Franklin claimed he did not realize there was a line for the bathroom and alleged that he felt threatened by Kaster’s demeanor. He expressed fear of being physically assaulted, leading him to fire the weapon in self-defense as Kaster followed him outside.

Family and friends of Kaster have expressed their devastation over the loss. A memorial has been set up outside the gas station, commemorating Kaster as a beloved friend, brother, and dog lover. His sister, Delca, described the loss as a nightmare that has left their family in shock and mourning.

A GoFundMe page has been established to assist Kaster’s family with funeral expenses, reflecting the community’s support during this time of tragedy. Franklin remains in custody as the investigation continues.
