BOSTON, Massachusetts – A violent altercation ensued when police responded to a domestic violence call in Massachusetts, leading to a 27-year-old man biting off a piece of an officer’s ear, prosecutors revealed.
The Suffolk District Attorney, Kevin Hayden, highlighted the incident, emphasizing the risks first responders face in these situations. The suspect, Carlos Sanabria from Chelsea, was held without bail following a dangerousness hearing ordered by a judge set later in the month.
Sanabria faced charges including mayhem, strangulation, assault and battery on a police officer, assault to murder, and resisting arrest. The incident unfolded at the Chelsea Community Center when Sanabria became uncooperative, escalating as he resisted the officers, ultimately resulting in the violent act against the officer.
Despite the chaos, the second officer intervened by subduing Sanabria, using force to restrain him and prevent further harm. The injured officer received immediate medical care and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Given the severity of the situation, a dangerousness hearing is scheduled for September 20 to assess the ongoing threat posed by Sanabria. Hayden also emphasized the importance of reaching out for help in cases of domestic or sexual violence, directing individuals to hotlines providing immediate and confidential support.
