New Delhi, India: A team from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) faced a violent attack while carrying out a raid at a farmhouse in southwest Delhi’s Bijwasan. During the raid, one official sustained severe injuries as a result of the assault. Following the incident, police detained one individual in connection with the case.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Surender Choudhary, the assault occurred at a farmhouse where the ED team, led by AD Suraj Yadav, was conducting the raid. The property is owned by a chartered accountant named Ashok Kumar, who, along with his relatives, reportedly attacked the ED officials. Despite being supported by two CRPF officers, the team had to request additional assistance from another CRPF cop.
Authorities have registered a case against the accused for several offenses, including obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions, causing hurt to deter a public servant from duty, and criminal intimidation. One of the suspects, identified as Yash, has been taken into custody.
In a statement, an ED official mentioned that the agency’s headquarters intelligence unit was investigating thousands of cybercrime cases, such as phishing, QR code scams, part-time job scams, and call center frauds. The investigation revealed an organized nexus of chartered accountants and crypto traders utilizing around 15,000 mule accounts to launder proceeds from cybercrimes.
The official further explained that the searches conducted in multiple locations have unveiled illicit activities. During the raid in Bijwasan, Kumar and his brother reportedly assaulted an ED officer, causing injury, before fleeing the scene.
The ED has vowed to continue its efforts in uncovering and dismantling criminal operations involved in cybercrimes, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with law enforcement to address such illicit activities effectively.
