NAUGATUCK, Conn. – A man wanted in connection with a violent attack at a Naugatuck bar was captured in Florida and has been brought back to Connecticut to face charges, Naugatuck police confirmed.
The incident occurred on October 8 at Sagres Bar and Restaurant on Maple Street, where a man was found in critical condition, unconscious, and bleeding profusely from a head wound. Authorities released a video of the assault, which showed the victim being violently attacked, causing life-threatening injuries.
Eloy Junio Medeiroa De Oliveria was apprehended in Martin County, Florida, and has been extradited back to Connecticut to face charges including second-degree assault and breach of peace. Federal officials revealed that Oliveria was arrested on the high seas while attempting to flee the United States.
Following the successful extradition, the Naugatuck Police Department expressed gratitude to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and federal partners, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, for their efforts in bringing the suspect to justice.
As of now, Oliveria remains in custody on a $150,000 bond, marking a crucial step towards justice for the victim and his family. Police have emphasized the significance of his capture in bringing closure to the case and ensuring the accountability of the perpetrator.
