Group launches brutal attack at Georgia campsite on 58-year-old man and his 21-year-old daughter

HELEN, GA – A family camping excursion in the North Georgia mountains turned violent over the weekend, leaving a father and daughter hospitalized and four individuals facing serious felony charges as authorities continue their investigation.

The attack occurred Friday evening at the Low Gap Campground, a popular recreation spot along Low Gap Creek near Helen. According to the White County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of an altercation at the site and found two victims, 58-year-old Bruce Waldon and his 20-year-old daughter, Gracee Waldon, suffering from significant injuries.

Officials say the incident began when Krista Wilson, 44, allegedly assaulted Gracee Waldon, sparking a chaotic confrontation. In an attempt to defend herself, the younger woman reportedly stabbed Wilson. The situation escalated as three others—Joshua Wilson, 42, Joshua Miller, 32, and Charles Miller, 39—allegedly joined in, directing their violence at Bruce Waldon.

Investigators report that Bruce Waldon was struck in the head with a glass beer bottle, resulting in a severe laceration. Once on the ground, he was beaten further by the attackers, according to law enforcement. Both he and his daughter were rushed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center; Gracee was initially listed in serious condition, while her father was admitted to intensive care in critical condition. The extent of Bruce Waldon’s injuries included a gash requiring 40 stitches and a brain bleed, family members said.

Family accounts suggest the Waldons were quietly enjoying their evening, with Bruce prepping a fishing pole and snacking, when they were ambushed. Speaking publicly, another daughter recounted the fear and trauma her family experienced, describing her father as having nightmares following the incident.

The four suspects are all from Lula, Georgia, the sheriff’s office said. Each faces charges of aggravated assault and battery. The investigation revealed that the altercation took place with little provocation and that the victims were surprised from behind.

While Krista Wilson was treated for her stab wound, the other suspects were arrested shortly after deputies arrived at the scene. Authorities say all involved parties have been identified, but law enforcement continues to investigate whether more individuals participated in the attack.

As Bruce Waldon remains hospitalized, the family has launched an online fundraiser to help cover medical expenses and support him during his prolonged recovery. The Waldon family are also calling for increased safety measures at Low Gap Campground, including a possible ban on alcohol.

The incident has raised concerns for campers and the local community in White County, where such violence is rare. Law enforcement officials have urged anyone with information related to the attack to come forward.

The sheriff’s office says its investigation is ongoing as they seek to determine the full circumstances and whether additional arrests may be warranted.
