Guilty: Greer Man Sentenced to 17 Years for Violent Gas Station Stabbing Incident

GREER, S.C. — A 64-year-old man has pleaded guilty in connection with a brutal attack at a local gas station that occurred earlier this year. Frank Arthur Lawson faced the court on Monday, acknowledging his role in a violent incident that has raised concerns about public safety in the community.

The altercation took place on June 18, 2023, at a Spinx gas station on The Parkway. According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, the confrontation began over a dispute regarding the queue for service. Lawson escalated the situation by drawing a knife, resulting in a serious injury to the victim, who suffered a stab wound to the throat.

Emergency medical personnel from Greenville EMS and staff at Prisma Health quickly responded to the scene, providing urgent care that ultimately saved the victim’s life. The incident, shocking to witnesses, has highlighted the potential for everyday disagreements to spiral into acts of violence.

In court, Lawson pleaded guilty to charges of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, as well as possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The plea agreement comes as a relief to many in the community, who have expressed concern over rising violence in public spaces.

As a consequence of his actions, Lawson was sentenced to 17 years in prison, where he will serve his time in the South Carolina Department of Corrections. This case serves as a stark reminder of the need for conflict resolution and the potential dangers that can arise when tempers flare.

Local authorities continue to emphasize the importance of reporting violent incidents and maintaining safety at public establishments as a means of preventing such occurrences in the future.
