Gunman’s Girlfriend Pleads Guilty in Buying Guns for Fatal Attack on Burnsville First Responders

Burnsville, Minnesota – A year after the tragic shooting that resulted in the deaths of three Burnsville first responders, new developments have emerged in the case. The shooter’s girlfriend has recently admitted to purchasing the guns that were used in the attack.

On February 18, 2024, Burnsville police officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, along with firefighter-paramedic Adam Finseth, lost their lives during a standoff. The perpetrator, 38-year-old Shannon Gooden, carried out the shooting before taking his own life. Gooden, who was prohibited from owning firearms due to a prior felony conviction, utilized the guns bought by his girlfriend in the crime.

Ashley Anne Dyrdahl, Gooden’s longtime partner, has now changed her plea to guilty on two charges of straw purchasing. During a recent court hearing, she expressed remorse through her attorney. Dyrdahl, aged 36, is awaiting sentencing and is anticipated to receive a prison term ranging from 30 to 37 months for her involvement in acquiring the weapons used in the tragic incident.

The community continues to mourn the loss of Elmstrand, Ruge, and Finseth, whose lives were cut short in the senseless act of violence. The case serves as a grim reminder of the devastating impact of gun-related crimes and raises questions about gun control measures to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.

As the legal proceedings move forward, authorities are working diligently to ensure that justice is served for the fallen first responders and their families. The outcome of Dyrdahl’s sentencing will be closely monitored, offering closure and a sense of accountability for those affected by the heartbreaking events of that fateful day in Burnsville.
