Husband accuses 23-year-old Texas woman of cheating and shoots her while their 1-year-old son is home

BRYAN, TX – The life of 23-year-old Alexis Walls was cut short in her own home earlier this year, leaving her family and community searching for answers and comfort in the wake of a tragedy that has shaken Bryan to its core.

Walls, described by loved ones as a source of joy and warmth, was shot and killed in February 2025 during the early morning hours while her 18-month-old son was inside the residence. The crime unfolded on East 18th Street, a quiet neighborhood in the city neighboring College Station, a community closely linked with Texas A&M University.

Authorities responding to a 911 call entered the family home just after 1 a.m. and found Walls dead at the scene. According to the investigation, she had suffered multiple gunshot wounds—fifteen in total. Her son, Zaylen, though physically unharmed in the violence, is now left to grow up without his mother’s presence.

Brandon Dickerson, 30, Walls’ common-law husband and father of their young son, called emergency services after the shooting and confessed to the killing. Police later learned that Dickerson’s actions stemmed from accusations of infidelity, a motive that would come to light in court proceedings.

This week, Dickerson pleaded guilty to one count of murder in Brazos County’s 85th District Court. Judge Kyle Hawthorne sentenced him to 50 years in prison, finalizing one chapter of a case that has drawn community attention to the cost and tragedy of domestic violence.

Friends and family have spoken of Walls as an exuberant spirit who never failed to brighten a room. Described as the youngest of three siblings, she was known for her welcoming personality, her talkative nature, and her unwavering love for her son. Family remember her as a “hurricane”—a burst of energy and compassion who left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

As the legal process moves forward, Walls’ family is now caring for her young son, who is on the autism spectrum. The district attorney’s office highlighted the special bond shared between mother and child, emphasizing the deep void left by her loss.

Walls’ death is the latest in a series of incidents highlighting the continuing issue of domestic violence within Texas. Community advocates say her case underscores the importance of support systems for at-risk families and the urgent need for resources to prevent similar tragedies.

Dickerson has been held in the Brazos County Detention Center since his arrest and will be transferred to the custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to serve out his five-decade sentence. Officials note that he expressed remorse through legal representatives, acknowledging responsibility for his actions.

Family members and friends remain committed to preserving Alexis Walls’ legacy, cherishing memories of her kindness, energy, and the unconditional love she gave to those around her. As they navigate life without her, they say her light continues to guide them, even in the darkest of times.
