Enugu State, Nigeria – A violent attack at the Kogi-Enugu boundary resulted in the deaths of at least five members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) with three others reported missing. The incident, which took place on Thursday, March 14, 2025, has left the community in shock and mourning.
According to reports, the attack occurred at the Eshi River, a border point between the Opanda community in Uzo-Uwani LGA, Enugu State, and the Amaeke community in Igalamela-Odolu LGA, Kogi State. Security forces, including the police and military, swiftly responded to the scene and apprehended two male suspects. Efforts to track down other fleeing suspects are currently underway in cooperation with Kogi State authorities.
MACBAN’s National Deputy Director General, Gidado Siddiki, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and emphasized that MACBAN members are law-abiding citizens engaged in the legitimate business of cattle rearing and selling in the South East. He called for a thorough investigation into the killings to identify those responsible and ensure justice is served. Siddiki also urged authorities to implement measures to prevent future attacks on MACBAN members.
In a statement, Siddiki offered condolences to the families of the deceased and missing individuals, praying for their eternal rest and strength for their loved ones. He advised MACBAN members to remain calm and law-abiding while trusting in the government’s investigation process.
The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the details of the attack, clarifying the location and the ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. The tragic incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of pastoral communities in the region, prompting calls for enhanced protection measures and swift action against those responsible for the violence.
