Milwaukee man who dated his stepsister shoots his father when he tries to stop them from fighting

MILWAUKEE, WI – A confrontation at a modest Milwaukee home ended in bloodshed last week when a 28-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his own father during a heated argument, all while a family member watched in horror.

Authorities say Miguel Ocasio was apprehended on Nov. 14 and now faces a first-degree homicide charge, with the added allegation he used a dangerous weapon. The victim, Miguel Arocho, was later identified as Ocasio’s father.

The scene unfolded on the evening of Nov. 13, when Milwaukee police were called to the 1900 block of South 16th Street around 7:45 p.m. Officers arrived to find Arocho with a gunshot wound to the head inside the residence. He was pronounced dead at the scene as grieving family members looked on.

Investigators quickly learned that the sole eyewitness to the killing was closely tied to both men. She described herself as Arocho’s stepdaughter and Ocasio’s former girlfriend. She, along with her young children, had been living at the home with Arocho.

Earlier that day, the witness said she had returned home from a trip to Walmart with a male friend. Their arrival apparently angered Ocasio, who pulled up to the residence and accused her of being involved with the friend. The witness explained that Ocasio tried to pull open her car door when she arrived, sparking a tense argument.

Fearing things might escalate, she got out of the car to protect her friend, knowing Ocasio often carried a firearm. Her friend left, but Ocasio continued hurling accusations and pushed her in the face as she tried to enter the apartment.

The situation escalated further when Arocho, alerted by the commotion, came outside to intervene. The witness said she tried to de-escalate matters, but a shouting match broke out between Ocasio and his father in the gangway outside the residence.

Amid the chaos, Ocasio allegedly drew a gun. The witness attempted to shove him away and managed to push him toward the sidewalk. At that moment, police documents say Ocasio fired two gunshots, though neither hit anyone, according to the witness.

Arocho retreated inside, but quickly returned outside. The witness reported that Arocho’s hands appeared empty when he reemerged. Suddenly, she was either pushed or she fell to the ground—and then more shots rang out. When she got to her feet, she found Arocho shot and fatally wounded.

After the violence, Ocasio fled by foot. Police located and arrested him the following day.

During questioning, Ocasio acknowledged firing the shots that killed his father. He told officers the confrontation began as he spoke with his ex-girlfriend and that his father confronted him with a threat involving a firearm. Fearing for his safety, Ocasio said he fired a warning shot. He claimed he believed his father was reaching for a weapon as he exited the house, and in panic, he fired again. He also admitted that after the shooting, he did not check on his father but instead ran from the scene.

Ocasio is being held at the Milwaukee County Jail, with bail set at $100,000 cash. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 25, where he is expected to face the homicide charge and the full weight of the accusations against him.
