LOS ANGELES — A tragic incident inside a home in Lakewood has been classified as a murder-suicide, following the deaths of a couple and their teenage daughter. Authorities confirmed the findings after an extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event.
Early on January 15, deputies of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to an emergency call reporting gunfire in the 5800 block of Lorelei Avenue. Upon arrival, they met a 19-year-old woman who had escaped the situation unharmed and informed them about the distressing events that had unfolded. She reported that her father had fired shots inside the home.
Inside the residence, deputies discovered the body of 52-year-old Hector Lionel Alfaro, the alleged shooter, who was found suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. In a separate bedroom, they located his wife, 48-year-old Sandra Alfaro, and their 17-year-old daughter both deceased, victims of apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigators revealed that the daughter had been asleep during the initial gunfire. She awakened to the sound of shots and witnessed her father brandishing a handgun. Despite being targeted, she thankfully escaped physical harm. Following these alarming moments, Hector Alfaro turned the weapon on himself.
Authorities recovered two firearms at the scene, but the motives behind this devastating act remain unclear. The sheriff’s department continues to investigate the incident to gather further insights into the family dynamics and underlying factors leading to this tragedy.
Residents in the Lakewood community expressed shock and sorrow over the heartbreaking event. Neighbors described the family as generally quiet and kept to themselves, making the violent circumstances even more unsettling.
