Oklahoma man in mask stabs teen coworker on her front porch then stabs her brother for trying to save her

SHAWNEE, OK – A quiet Oklahoma neighborhood was rocked in the early morning hours Saturday when an 18-year-old woman came face-to-face with terror on her front porch.

Just after 1 a.m., the young woman was returning home, savoring a midnight meal, when her ordinary routine took a violent turn. As she paused outside her house, a masked figure crept behind her. Without warning, a knife flashed in the darkness. The attacker plunged the blade into her neck and wrist, repeating the assault over and over.

Amid the chaos, the masked assailant reportedly uttered frantic apologies, his voice shaking as he stabbed her a total of 14 times. Screams shattered the night, waking the victim’s family inside. Her brother, alarmed by the desperate cries, raced outside into the danger, confronting the attacker in a desperate attempt to save his sister.

The confrontation turned violent for him as well. In his effort to stop the assault, the brother was stabbed, sustaining injuries that were later determined to be minor. Regardless, his brave action sent the masked assailant fleeing into the night, leaving chaos and bloodshed behind.

Pottawatomie County deputies arrived soon after, finding a scene that hinted at dark obsession. The investigation quickly turned up evidence implicating 24-year-old Ronaldo Zavala, a man with a disturbing history connected to the victim.

Authorities say Zavala and the woman had once been co-workers at a local movie theater, but his infatuation had quickly escalated. Following a workplace complaint about his inappropriate attention, Zavala was fired. From there, the obsession spiraled, with Zavala allegedly sending unwanted gifts and food deliveries to the woman even after his termination.

Investigators believe that Zavala’s fixation led him to stalk his former colleague and wait outside her home in disguise, plotting an attack. Evidence collected at the scene led deputies directly to Zavala, who was subsequently arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated assault and battery, assault and battery while masked, and domestic assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim’s mother witnessed the ordeal unfold from inside the house, while her brother’s quick intervention may have saved her life. Despite suffering critical injuries, the young woman was reported to be in stable condition as the investigation continued.

Zavala is now being held in the Pottawatomie County jail as authorities piece together the events leading up to the brutal attack. Meanwhile, the community remains stunned by a crime that transformed an ordinary porch into the scene of a nightmare.
