Stockton, California — In the aftermath of a tragic mass shooting that claimed the lives of four individuals, including three children, the community is reeling. A memorial has emerged at the site of the violence, where a birthday celebration turned deadly just six days ago.
On Friday, mourners gathered outside the Lucile Avenue banquet hall, taking part in a cleansing ceremony aimed at blessing the space where the horrific event occurred. Steven Bojorques, who organized the event, emphasized the profound impact the shooting has had on the community. “Children deserve better,” he remarked, adding that they should feel safe at all times.
The celebratory atmosphere on that fateful Saturday was shattered when gunfire erupted, injuring 13 others in addition to those killed. Investigators have indicated that the attack appeared to be targeted, and the shooter or shooters remain at large, heightening tensions among residents who are now living in fear.
In a disturbing turn of events, two attendees from the birthday party were arrested on parole violations. Authorities have stated that they are believed to be gang members, although the connection between the shooting and gang activity has not been confirmed. Local law enforcement is working closely with federal partners, including the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), as the case unfolds.
“This is a community crisis,” said Bojorques, stressing the need for solidarity and cooperation among law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety. “We need everyone on board to help the city and protect our families.”
As the weekend approaches, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office assured residents that they are prioritizing safety. Field teams are on standby to respond swiftly to any incidents that may arise, especially those that could be related to the mass shooting.
While the investigation continues, a community effort to support the victims and their families is gaining momentum. Fundraising initiatives are underway, and the state’s Victim Compensation Board has announced that those injured, as well as families of the deceased, may be eligible for financial assistance. As a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest has been established, community members are urged to come forward with any tips that could assist investigators.
