Samurai Sword Assault: Teenager Jailed for Violent Attack on Boy in Portslade

Portslade, England — A 17-year-old boy has been charged and detained following a violent attack involving a samurai sword that left a younger teenager injured. The incident occurred on July 10 at approximately 9 p.m. on Franklin Road, where witnesses reported seeing the assault unfold.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene to assist the 15-year-old victim, who sustained significant injuries primarily to his arm. Following the attack, police quickly identified the suspects, leading to the arrest of two teenagers in connection with the incident.

One suspect, whose identity remains protected due to youth laws, was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. Also charged was Rhys Wyman, an 18-year-old from Eastbourne, who faced multiple charges, including possession of a bladed article in a public place and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm. Both individuals attended a hearing at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on July 12, where Wyman was remanded in custody while the younger suspect was released on bail.

While awaiting his next court date, the 17-year-old was rearrested for violating bail conditions and has since returned to custody. Wyman’s trial occurred on August 26, resulting in convictions for possessing an offensive weapon and attempting grievous bodily harm. He was then remanded again to await sentencing.

On September 29, Wyman received a 20-month prison sentence for his role in the incident. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old is set to appear in court again on October 14 to face charges related to the attack.

Detective Constable Harry Judge commented on the serious nature of the assault and emphasized the importance of accountability in such cases. Fortunately, the victim is reportedly recovering well from the injuries he sustained. “This violent attack took place in broad daylight, without consideration for the consequences,” Judge noted, highlighting the need for community safety and vigilance in addressing youth violence. The case continues to underscore concerns about rising incidents involving weapons among young people in the area.
