Scam Alert: Windsor Police Seek Public’s Help to Identify Young Man Who Defrauded and Assaulted Elderly Resident

Windsor, Ontario – Local police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a young man linked to a troubling incident involving a vulnerable elderly resident. Authorities allege that the suspect not only executed a financial scam but also resorted to violence during the encounter.

On Thursday, the suspect reportedly approached the victim at their residence on Palms Crescent, claiming that a family member had been arrested and required immediate bail funds. The con artist successfully persuaded the resident to part with $8,500, exploiting trust and vulnerability.

The following day, the suspect returned to the home and asked for additional funds. When the resident refused to comply, the man allegedly forced his way inside, where he physically attacked the elderly individual before fleeing the scene, leaving the victim shaken.

To aid in the investigation, Windsor police have shared footage from a doorbell camera that captured the suspect. The video may provide crucial evidence that could lead to his apprehension.

Authorities have described the suspect as a young white male, approximately 18 to 25 years old, with a thin stature and long brown hair. At the time of the incidents, he was seen in a dark sweater over a white dress shirt, paired with dark pants and wearing a surgical mask.

Windsor police encourage anyone who may recognize the suspect, or who has any useful information, to contact the Major Crimes Unit at (519) 255-6700, extension 4830. Tips can be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).

This incident serves as a stark reminder for residents to remain vigilant, particularly when interacting with individuals claiming to be in distress. Authorities are committed to tackling such fraudulent schemes, especially those that target the elderly, and are doing everything possible to bring the suspect to justice.
