PORTLAND, Ore. — A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in October 2025 in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood. The teenager, whose identity has not been disclosed, is now in custody at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center, according to a release from the Portland Police Bureau.
The shooting victim, identified as 22-year-old Andrew “Andy” Nguyen, was shot on October 25 near the intersection of Southeast 142nd Avenue and Division Street. Authorities reported that Nguyen was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after. Following the incident, the shooter fled the scene, prompting an ongoing investigation.
The case took a turn on November 1 when police responded to a hit-and-run incident near Southeast 117th Avenue and Ash Street. Officers discovered a stolen vehicle from which four suspects fled on foot. A subsequent search of the area not only located the individuals but also several firearms, raising suspicions about their involvement in various criminal activities.
Investigators linked one of these suspects to Nguyen’s shooting, leading to the arrest of the 17-year-old. Authorities have charged him with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon, reflecting the severity of the allegations against him.
