Mandeville, La. — A domestic dispute escalated into deadly violence early Monday morning, leading to a fatal defensive shooting when a neighbor intervened to halt an ongoing knife attack. The episode unfolded shortly before 3 a.m. in the quiet Greenleaves Subdivision, prompting swift action from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a man deceased in a yard and a woman nearby suffering from stab wounds. Early reports reveal that the violence began inside a residence where a man allegedly attacked his girlfriend with a knife. In a desperate bid for safety, the woman escaped through a window and sought refuge at a neighbor’s home.
As the assailant pursued her and continued to act violently outside, a nearby resident stepped in to confront the attacker. After issuing a command for the suspect to stop and receiving no compliance, the neighbor resorted to gunfire to protect the woman, striking the assailant.
The suspect was declared dead at the scene, while the woman was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
