Survivor of Timberview HS Shooting Killed in Arlington Parking Lot

ARLINGTON, Texas – The tragic death of Zacchaeus Selby, a survivor of the 2021 school shooting at Timberview High School in Arlington, has shocked the community. Selby, 19, was shot and killed on Monday evening in the parking lot of an Arlington apartment complex.

Police responded to a shooting call on Monday evening, where they discovered Selby lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Selby tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Selby’s involvement in a violent classroom brawl with classmate Timothy Simpkins in 2021 resulted in him being targeted in the school shooting. Simpkins was convicted of attempted capital murder in 2023 and sentenced to 12 years in prison for the incident. During the trial, it was revealed that Simpkins had pulled out a gun and fired at Selby and others after a confrontation in the classroom.

In the recent shooting incident, witnesses reported an argument preceding the gunshots, but no arrests have been made yet. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of high-risk activities being involved in Selby’s death. They are actively seeking witnesses and gathering evidence to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic event.

Despite the tragic nature of Selby’s death, authorities have clarified that there is currently no evidence linking it to the previous school shooting at Timberview High School in 2021. However, the investigation is ongoing, and no possibilities are being ruled out at this time.

The loss of Zacchaeus Selby, a young man who had already survived one traumatic shooting incident, has once again brought the issue of gun violence to the forefront of discussions in the community. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced in preventing such tragedies and the need for continued efforts to address the underlying issues contributing to such violence.
