Arlington, Texas – A tragic turn of events unfolded as Zacchaeus Selby-Mukum, who survived the 2021 Timberview High School shooting at the age of 15, was fatally shot at the age of 19 in Arlington on Monday night, according to the Arlington Police Department.
Officers responded to a call reporting a shooting at an apartment complex on Laurelwood Drive around 5:50 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Selby-Mukum with a gunshot wound in the parking lot. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
It was confirmed by the Arlington police that Selby-Mukum was the same individual who had been injured in the Timberview High School shooting four years prior. However, it remains unclear if the two incidents are connected in any way.
In the wake of the Timberview High School shooting, the perpetrator, Timothy Simpkins, was convicted of attempted capital murder and sentenced to 12 years in prison. He was later given an additional two years for unlawfully carrying a weapon in a prohibited place.
As the investigation into Selby-Mukum’s tragic death unfolds, Arlington police have disclosed that no suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made. Witnesses reported hearing a dispute before the shooting occurred, indicating a potential motive related to high-risk activities.
The Arlington Police Department emphasized that the circumstances surrounding Monday’s shooting are still under scrutiny, leaving detectives open to exploring all possible leads to bring justice to Selby-Mukum and his loved ones. The community mourns the loss of a young life that had already experienced the trauma of gun violence at such a tender age.
