Hoveni, South Africa — A wave of terror swept through Hoveni village as armed assailants launched a violent crime spree overnight, triggering a police manhunt for two suspects involved in multiple robberies and sexual assaults. The incident unfolded between late Friday night and Saturday morning, alarming residents and leaving families devastated.
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba reported that the attackers targeted seven homes between 11:30 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Authorities are treating the series of assaults as a coordinated effort, with the culprits reportedly breaking down doors and demanding cash and valuables from frightened residents.
Among the most shocking details released are the assaults on three young girls aged 14 and 15, who were victims of sexual violence. During the crime spree, a man sustained critical injuries from multiple gunshot wounds and is currently hospitalized, clinging to life. The assailants also inflicted bodily harm on several victims, indiscriminately firing weapons and inciting fear across the community.
In response to the chaos, an intensive investigation has commenced. Forensic teams are meticulously examining the crime scenes, gathering crucial evidence such as empty cartridges. “A specialized task force, comprised of detectives from various units, has been established to tackle these cases head-on,” Ledwaba said.
This latest round of violence adds to a troubling trend in Limpopo province, which has seen a rise in ruthless crimes. Recent months have highlighted a disturbing increase in violent incidents, including a recent house invasion in which a young girl was raped and a boy shot.
Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the brutal acts, emphasizing the urgency of deploying all available resources to apprehend the perpetrators. Hadebe described the attacks as an affront to the community’s safety and dignity, asserting that experienced detectives have been assigned to prioritize this case.
“The horror we witnessed in Hoveni village is not just an assault on individual families; it threatens the very fabric of our community,” she remarked. Hadebe has assured the public that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for these heinous crimes.
