WALSALL, England — A violent altercation unfolded in Walsall last summer, resulting in severe injuries for five men after they were assaulted with weapons ranging from firearms to baseball bats. The incident occurred shortly before midnight on July 31 when two vehicles aggressively collided with the victims’ car on Reedswood Lane.
CCTV footage documented the chaotic scene as a group of assailants surrounded the vehicle, where one individual discharged a firearm at point-blank range into the car. The victims, sustaining various life-threatening injuries, managed to drive themselves to Walsall Manor Hospital for treatment.
The attack resulted in significant medical interventions, with all five men suffering serious injuries that required multiple surgeries. One of the victims was placed in an induced coma due to the extent of his injuries.
Following extensive investigations, including analysis of CCTV and mobile phone data, authorities arrested eight men connected to the assault. These individuals, all from Walsall, received sentences totaling nearly 120 years at Wolverhampton Crown Court after pleading guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Detective Inspector Francis Nock from West Midlands Police’s major crime unit described the incident as a disturbing example of street violence. He emphasized that such behavior will not be tolerated in the community and noted that the sentences handed down should serve as a warning against the use of weapons.
Among those sentenced, Amar Shazhad, 37, and Hezar Iyaiz, 20, each received 17-year prison terms. Other defendants, including Mohammed Sajid, 38, and Kamran Moore, 22, were both sentenced to 16 years, while Shazad Mahmood, 34, also received a 17-year sentence. Khurum Sajad, 23, was sentenced to 16 years, and Waheed Ayub, 28, drew a similar term. The eighth defendant, 29-year-old Umar Saddique, received a shorter sentence of two years for assisting an offender.
Authorities are still in pursuit of Amar Khan, 40, also known as Adam Barzini, in connection with the case. Detective Inspector Nock called on the public for assistance, urging anyone who may encounter Khan not to approach him but to contact law enforcement immediately.
As investigators continue to gather information, they reaffirm their commitment to reducing violence in the area and ensuring that similar incidents do not occur in the future.
