Violent Son Attacks Parents After Pub Binge- Faces Potential Return Home

Darlington, England – Steven Cruickshanks of Darlington, England, faced charges of assault after a violent outburst towards his parents. The 43-year-old attacked his father and mother in a drunken rage, causing physical harm to both individuals.

Prosecutor Elisha Marsay detailed the events, explaining that Cruickshanks became aggressive upon returning home intoxicated after a night at the pub. He lashed out at his father first, repeatedly punching him before turning his violent attention to his mother, slapping and punching her to the ground.

The violence escalated as Cruickshanks grabbed his mother’s mobile phone, threw it to the floor, and stomped on it. When his father attempted to seek help, the defendant pushed him to the ground and threatened him with further harm.

Despite his lack of memory due to drinking, Cruickshanks pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and assault by beating. His parents, though initially fearful for their safety, later withdrew their police statements.

In light of the circumstances, Judge Nathan Adams adjourned the case to allow time for further investigation and to determine the parents’ willingness to have Cruickshanks return home upon release. The defendant remained in custody pending sentencing. The incident left his parents feeling helpless and heartbroken, with concerns about the safety and well-being of their own son.
