MOUNT PEARL, Newfoundland – Police have arrested a seventh youth in relation to two violent attacks that occurred on Roosevelt Avenue in Mount Pearl last Friday. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary revealed that a male youth is facing charges related to two assaults, armed robbery, and uttering threats tied to incidents on Roosevelt Avenue.
Additionally, further charges have been laid against four individuals from the same group involved in an attack at a restaurant on Commonwealth Avenue on November 8. Const. James Cadigan shared that a male youth is facing charges of assault with a weapon and property damage in connection to the restaurant incident.
The November 8 attack, which took place between St. David’s Avenue and Edinburgh Drive, resulted in a man sustaining minor injuries that did not require medical attention. Notably, the victim was not known to the perpetrators, but verbal engagement led to the assault outside the restaurant.
The youth involved in the November 8 incident, ranging from ages 13 to 15, were scheduled to appear in provincial court. Cadigan emphasized the significance of community cooperation in directing investigations, leading to rightful conclusions and lawful actions taken by law enforcement.
Mount Pearl Mayor Dave Aker commended the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary for their swift actions and underscored the importance of addressing youth violence. In response to recent events, the city is organizing a town hall event to facilitate discussions on safety concerns and explore solutions to prevent future incidents involving youth violence.
Mayor Aker emphasized the critical role of the justice system in handling those responsible for violent acts. The city is committed to engaging with residents to address these issues collectively and ensure a safer community for all. Residents are encouraged to participate in the upcoming town hall event to voice their concerns and contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding safety measures in the city.
