PLAINFIELD, IL – A 21-year-old Illinois man has been detained after authorities allege he grievously injured a toddler following a dispute involving his cellphone.
The Will County Sheriff’s Office reported on March 15 that deputies and emergency responders were dispatched to a residence in Plainfield. Upon arrival, a 2-year-old girl was found unconscious but breathing, accompanied by her mother and Jordan Padilla, her mother’s boyfriend.
Emergency personnel observed troubling injuries on the girl’s face and stomach, prompting immediate medical intervention.
The toddler’s condition rapidly escalated in severity. Initially treated at a local hospital, she was later moved to a Chicago hospital in critical condition. Medical evaluations uncovered a series of grave injuries, including a fractured skull and brain bleed. Additional disturbing findings were a “blown left pupil” and pronounced bruising.
During subsequent police interviews, Padilla allegedly gave statements that did not align with the child’s injuries, according to police reports. Investigations concluded with Padilla purportedly admitting to striking the girl’s face with his elbow.
Deputy Chief Dan Jungles of the Will County Sheriff’s Office explained that Padilla’s alleged attack stemmed from anger over the child throwing his cell phone.
The toddler’s mother was reportedly absent from the room during the alleged incident, unaware of the unfolding situation.
Jordan Padilla now faces multiple charges: battery, domestic battery, aggravated battery, aggravated domestic battery, and aggravated battery of a child. He remains incarcerated at the Will County Adult Detention Facility, pending his upcoming court date as legal proceedings move forward.
