CANTON, MS – A Mississippi woman was killed in a harrowing escape attempt after allegedly being kidnapped by her former boyfriend outside a Nissan auto plant. Glynis Jackson, 31, was abducted on Jan. 27 from the plant’s parking lot by Joshua Demarshall Andrews, who is now facing multiple charges, authorities said.
The distressing sequence of events began around 7:30 a.m. when Andrews forcibly took Jackson, a mother of three, local officials stated. As he drove north along Interstate 55, Jackson tried to flee by jumping from the moving car, but tragically, she was struck and killed by another vehicle. Investigator reports indicate she had been shot multiple times before her escape attempt, and her body was found near the 161-mile marker in Holmes County.
Jackson’s death adds new charges for Andrews, already a convicted felon. In addition to capital murder and firearm possession charges, he now faces a charge of first-degree murder for the unborn child Jackson was carrying at the time, as later confirmed by authorities.
Andrews surrendered to law enforcement in Holmes County the day following the incident. Madison County Sheriff’s office has vowed rigorous legal pursuits, with Sheriff Randy Tucker condemning the act as a “heinous crime that shocks the conscience of society.”
Court proceedings have already commenced, with Andrews appearing before a judge on Jan. 28. Citing his history of violence and potential flight risk, the magistrate denied bail. Records reveal Andrews has previous convictions for aggravated assault and shooting into a motor vehicle, having been released from prison just months prior in September 2022.
