62-year-old Florida man calls 911 and claims pregnant ex-wife shot herself

APOPKA, FL – A Florida man faces serious charges after allegedly attempting to kill his ex-wife by shooting her and then trying to stage the incident as a self-inflicted injury, authorities said.

Jonathan William Erdman Frenk, 62, was arrested over the weekend and charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant person and attempted felony murder, according to court records. Officials responded to a shooting incident at a residence in Apopka on Saturday afternoon.

Upon arrival, police encountered Frenk unarmed outside the house, raising his hands in surrender. He reportedly informed officers that his ex-wife had been shot in the leg, speculating that it could be related to drug use.

Inside, officers found the woman, who was visibly distressed and calling for help. A handgun was discovered in a nearby suitcase. Initially, the woman claimed she had shot herself, but her account changed en route to the hospital.

During transport, she reportedly told emergency personnel, “My husband shot me!” This revelation came as she was receiving medical attention for her injuries.

In her statement to police, the woman recounted a domestic argument with Frenk that escalated. She claimed Frenk threatened to kill her before shooting her in the leg. Fearing for her life, she told Frenk she would blame herself to prevent further violence.

Court documents reveal Frenk’s attorney has denied these accusations, arguing that the scenario of attempted murder doesn’t align with Frenk’s actions. The attorney highlighted that Frenk had allegedly called 911 and assisted the victim rather than continuing the attack.

Further complicating the situation, the woman was reportedly under a legal order prohibiting her from contacting or approaching Frenk’s residence, according to court filings.

Frenk remains detained at the Orange County Jail without bond as the investigation continues.
