MARION COUNTY, FL – A teenager received a lengthy prison sentence on Friday for a violent attack on a 91-year-old woman in her home, leaving the community in shock.
Jesse Stone, now 15, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the heinous crime he committed when he was just 14. The sentence includes 237 days of credit for time already served and will be followed by 30 years of sex offender probation. This means he will live under significant legal restraints well into his advanced age.
The shocking assault took place at night in Marion County, where Stone crept into the woman’s residence while she slept. According to authorities, Stone attacked the elderly woman, with evidence linking him to the scene. His guilty plea admitted to charges of sexual assault and burglary with battery, both as an adult and as a juvenile delinquent.
Prosecutors conveyed the brutality of the attack during the trial, noting the victim had always shown kindness to Stone, who lived in the same neighborhood.
“This was a woman that only showed him loving kindness,” prosecutor Katrina Self said, highlighting the betrayal and premeditated nature of the crime.
The court heard how Stone used a pillow to cover the victim’s face, nearly suffocating her. Despite her attempts to fight back, he continued the assault. The prosecutor emphasized that Stone’s actions were not impulsive but deliberately executed with “sexual intent.”
Judge Lisa Herndon, in delivering the sentence, condemned the actions as extraordinarily egregious, acknowledging the lasting trauma suffered by the victim.
Defense attorney Jonathan Mills argued for leniency based on Stone’s youth, emphasizing his lack of prior offenses. Mills portrayed Stone as a teenager without a father figure and described his addiction to pornography. The attorney suggested that Stone showed remorse and was making academic progress, leading them to believe he could benefit from specific rehabilitation programs.
Despite these arguments, the seriousness of the crime dictated a substantial sentence. Stone’s case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of violence on vulnerable individuals and the severe consequences of such actions.
