Beaver, Pennsylvania – Inside the Beaver County courthouse, the alleged gunman in the murder of a teen faced a judge as the victim’s family spoke out ahead of the trial. Vashon Moreland, the father of 15-year-old Asaun, expressed his emotions as he recounted memories of his son. As the case progresses to trial, the family seeks justice for their lost loved one.
Moreland tearfully shared that he speaks to his son every day, especially when passing by the spot where Asaun was tragically shot last July. During the alleged shooter’s preliminary hearing, the courtroom was filled with Moreland’s family, who reacted with tears and cheers as the judge ruled to hold all charges for trial. Despite the emotional journey, Moreland remains steadfast in his pursuit of justice, entrusting the process to divine intervention.
The alleged shooter, Nyeheame Kirksey, along with his attorney, contested the charges during the lengthy preliminary hearing. Defense Attorney Lisle Weaver raised doubts based on witness testimonies regarding clothing items allegedly linked to the suspects seen fleeing the crime scene. Kirksey’s DNA was found on one of the hoodies in question, but Weaver questioned the presence of DNA from two other individuals, including the second suspect, Nassan Hunt, who was found near the clothes on the day of the shooting.
Beaver County District Attorney Nate Bible highlighted the strong probability linking Kirksey to the hoodie based on DNA evidence and additional unreleased video evidence that supports the prosecution’s case. Despite the defense’s arguments, Kirksey remains in Beaver County Jail with all charges upheld, awaiting formal arraignment in July.
