Arrest: Delaware Police Thwart Potential Mass Attack at University, Apprehending 25-Year-Old With Tactical Weapons

Newark, Delaware – Authorities have apprehended a 25-year-old man accused of planning a violent attack on the University of Delaware. The suspect, Luqmaan Khan, was arrested by New Castle County Police in the early hours of November 24, after officers conducted a traffic stop on his vehicle.

Police stated that Khan exhibited suspicious behavior, refusing to exit his truck when requested. Following their demands, officers reportedly discovered a cache of tactical-style weapons along with writings that hinted at a possible attack on the educational institution. Among the seized items were a loaded Glock .357 handgun, extended magazines, body armor, binoculars, a laptop, and a notebook containing alarming details regarding warfare techniques and assault plans.

Investigators have indicated that the notebook included diagrams of campus buildings and messages indicating a desire to achieve martyrdom. During questioning, Khan allegedly expressed his goal of becoming a martyr, a statement that raises questions about his motivations and mindset.

In a subsequent search of Khan’s residence in Wilmington, the FBI uncovered additional weapons, including a Glock 19 equipped with an illegal modification device and a .556 rifle. Authorities also found extended magazines, hollow-point ammunition, and tactical gear.

Khan faces several charges, including felonies for possession of a large capacity magazine and carrying a concealed weapon. Additional charges relate to resisting arrest and other violations. If convicted of the most serious charge, he could face a decade in prison.

Described as a U.S. citizen with roots in Pakistan, Khan was a student at the university during the time of his arrest. Following the incident, the university’s Interim President announced that Khan has been temporarily barred from campus while legal proceedings are underway. He is scheduled to appear in state court on December 9, with a federal detention hearing expected shortly thereafter.

Law enforcement officials have not disclosed specific details about Khan’s beliefs or motivations, but the investigation is ongoing. The incident has highlighted concerns about safety on college campuses and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in thwarting potential threats to public safety.
