Arrest of Suspected Attacker Highlights Oyo Police’s Commitment to Community Safety in Ibadan Assault Case

Ibadan, Nigeria — Local law enforcement has arrested a man accused of violently attacking a commercial motorcyclist in the Oyo State capital. The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Saheed Eegunjobi, was taken into custody thanks to a collaborative effort with community vigilantes.

A statement released by the Oyo State Police Command detailed how Eegunjobi was captured after Agbekoya Vigilante members reported the incident. The vigilantes promptly handed him over to police officers from the Idi-Aro Division.

According to police reports, Eegunjobi, along with an unidentified accomplice who remains at large, posed as passengers and boarded a motorcycle in the Mokola area. The duo then attacked the motorcyclist, 32-year-old Sakiru Tiamiyu, when they reached the Modina area. Eegunjobi allegedly inflicted severe injuries to Tiamiyu’s head with a cutlass, causing the victim to fall from his motorcycle while the accomplice fled with the vehicle.

Witnesses at the scene were instrumental in apprehending Eegunjobi following the attack. The police confirmed that Tiamiyu was promptly taken to a local hospital for medical treatment after suffering serious injuries.

Further investigations are ongoing, including efforts to locate the accomplice who escaped with the motorcycle. The police have also gathered evidence from the scene and the hospital to reinforce their case.
