Jones County, Mississippi – Authorities have apprehended three individuals in connection to a fatal shooting over the weekend in Jones County that resulted in the death of one man. According to Mitch Sumrall of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, teenagers Kantravious Haynes and Lucas Jones, along with Dytayshia Smith, have been taken into custody regarding the shooting death of 44-year-old Timmie Edward Carter from Taylorsville.
In the online records of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, Haynes, 18, from Taylorsville, is facing charges of murder. Additionally, Jones, 18, also from Taylorsville, and Smith, 20, from Laurel, are being charged with accessory after the fact.
Deputies were alerted to the incident at 62 Carter Dees Road in the Hebron community around 10:14 p.m. on Sunday following reports of gunfire and a man being injured. Upon their arrival at 10:22 p.m., deputies Kalob Broadway and Brock Avera discovered Carter lying on the road, indicating he had succumbed to his injuries.
The scene revealed a red pickup truck near Carter’s body with a large group of individuals present. An unidentified woman informed Broadway that the suspected shooter was in a maroon four-door vehicle.
Broadway initiated a crime scene log while assisting Avera in securing the area until investigators arrived. Once arrived, deputies relinquished control of the scene, assisting in managing the crowd and providing support with additional units.
