Greenville, North Carolina — Authorities arrested two men last week in connection with a serious home invasion that left one victim requiring hospitalization. The incident took place in the early hours of February 11 in a quiet suburban neighborhood, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Pitt County deputies received an emergency call reporting an assault around 3:16 a.m. Upon arriving at the residence on Louis Street, they discovered that a violent home invasion had occurred. Investigators said both suspects, identified as 20-year-old Jonathan David Garcia-Lario and 21-year-old Zaid Mayen, were found to be in the country illegally.
The duo allegedly committed multiple charges, including first-degree burglary, kidnapping, and a forcible sex offense, alongside assault with a deadly weapon leading to serious injuries. Two days following the incident, police apprehended Garcia-Lario, a homeless man, and Mayen, a resident of Chapel Hill. Evidence related to the crime was recovered at a nearby apartment two hours from the site of the invasion.
While officials have not disclosed specific details about the victim’s injuries, they reported that emergency medical services transported the individual to a local hospital for treatment. The severity of the crimes committed during the invasion has led authorities to treat this case with urgency.
Both suspects now face four felony charges and remain in police custody without bond. Garcia-Lario was initially booked at the Franklin County Detention Center before being transferred to the Pitt County facility, where he awaits further legal proceedings. Mayen, too, was held without bond at the Orange County Detention Center.
As the investigation unfolds, the Department of Homeland Security has been notified. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will likely become involved, as authorities have placed an immigration detainer on both suspects, suggesting they could face deportation after the criminal proceedings.
The U.S. Marshals Service provided assistance in locating the suspects, demonstrating the concerted effort among local and federal authorities to address this violent crime. Detectives from both the Major Crimes and Forensic Services Units responded to the scene, underscoring the serious nature of the events that transpired.
In light of this disturbing incident, community members are left shaken, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety in the area. This case will continue to develop as additional details emerge and legal actions proceed.
