Karbi Anglong District, Assam, India – A 15-year-old girl from Assam’s Karbi Anglong district was tragically raped, murdered, and dumped in a forest area by a 25-year-old neighbor, who works as a driver. This horrifying incident took place while the girl was being taken to her school by the perpetrator, who subsequently confessed to the crime upon his arrest.
The victim’s body was found on Tuesday after a missing complaint was filed on January 27, prompting a search operation by local authorities. Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjib Kumar Saikia reported that the accused, who had pretended to be unaware of the girl’s disappearance, had actually come to lodge the missing complaint himself.
Further investigation revealed that the victim’s parents had entrusted the driver with their daughter’s safety, sending her to the hostel where she stayed. The driver, however, admitted during initial interrogation that he had killed her on the way to the hostel, further disclosing that he had also raped the girl prior to her murder.
In light of these egregious crimes, a case has been registered against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The victim’s family has been vocal in their demand for capital punishment, emphasizing their trust in the accused and the devastating impact of their loss.
As the investigation continues and the accused undergoes further interrogation, the community awaits justice for the senseless and tragic loss of a young life.
