ELGIN, SCOTLAND – In a shocking incident at an Elgin shop, a man has confessed to committing assault after losing his temper. John Whyte reportedly chased a man around the store, viciously punching and kicking him on the head and body. The attack, which took place on January 2, was captured on the store’s CCTV footage and witnessed by onlookers. Fortunately, the victim suffered only a slight cut on his left temple and did not require hospitalization.
During the court proceedings at Elgin Sheriff Court, defense solicitor Megan Lee revealed that there had been a gradual buildup to the violent outburst by Whyte. She emphasized that such behavior was completely out of character for her client, describing him as a churchgoer who typically does not resort to violence. Despite this, the court heard that Whyte had previously withdrawn from his duties at the church.
In a stern moment, Sheriff Aitken addressed Whyte directly, pointing out the irrationality of his actions. Whyte, a 48-year-old resident of Elgin’s Kingsmills area, acknowledged his wrongdoing and was placed under the court’s supervision for the next year. As part of his sentence, Whyte will undergo a program focusing on coping strategies and consequential thinking to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
