CORK, Ireland — A violent altercation in Cork city has led to serious charges against a 39-year-old man, following a harrowing episode for a woman who narrowly escaped injury. Robert Nachtygal, who is currently without a fixed address, has pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman in her thirties. The incident occurred on Lower Oliver Plunkett Street shortly after 9:30 PM on October 23. Evidence presented in court suggests that Nachtygal forcibly pinned the victim against a wall and struck her multiple times in the face and head. The attack reportedly ceased only when a passerby intervened.
According to statements from law enforcement, the victim initially attempted to escape but soon returned to the scene. However, Nachtygal allegedly seized her by the hair and forcibly dragged her toward a nearby vehicle, where he restrained her once more. Witnesses described a tense situation when he allegedly brandished a broken bottle neck in a threatening manner, aiming it at her face and neck. In her attempt to protect herself, the woman raised her hand, suffering cuts to her wrist and hand in the process.
Remarkably, the entire event was captured on CCTV footage, providing crucial evidence for the prosecution. The woman reportedly sustained significant injuries, including a heavily bleeding gash, highlighting the violent nature of the attack.
Judge Helen Boyle noted the severity of the circumstances during the proceedings and has continued to remand the accused in custody until the rescheduled sentencing.
