Assault: Kirtland Man Faces Life in Prison for Alleged Attack on Parents

Kirtland, New Mexico – Jerome Weaver, a 21-year-old man, is facing federal assault charges following a violent attack on his parents that occurred in Shiprock on July 9. Weaver stands accused of assaulting his father with a handgun, causing injuries, and then reportedly choking his mother and holding her at gunpoint. The incident led to Weaver’s arrest on July 10, and he was subsequently booked into the San Juan County Detention Center before being transferred to federal custody on July 12.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, in a news release, disclosed that Weaver’s father received medical treatment for injuries sustained during the assault at the Northern Navajo Medical Center. An investigation into the case was carried out by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI, with support from the Navajo Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation.

If convicted, Weaver could potentially face a life sentence in federal prison. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brittany DuChaussee is handling the prosecution of the case, emphasizing the severity of the charges against Weaver.
