Lexington, Mich. — A local man has been charged following an alleged violent incident involving a former girlfriend. Joseph Martin Bader II, 42, appeared in 73A District Court on July 8, where he faced multiple charges related to the alleged assault.
Bader is charged with assault with intent to cause great bodily harm less than murder, a felony, as well as two misdemeanor counts of domestic violence—one aggravated. He remains in custody with a bond set at $25,000. A preliminary examination is scheduled for July 22.
The investigation began on July 6 when a 44-year-old woman from Croswell called 911 to report that she had been violently assaulted by Bader, with whom she had a previous romantic relationship. According to deputies, Bader had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
When deputies responded to the call, they found Bader walking in the vicinity. He matched the suspect’s description and appeared to have sustained injuries, being covered in blood from what appeared to be a stab wound. Following medical treatment at McLaren Port Huron Hospital, he was subsequently booked into the Sanilac County Jail.
The alleged victim was also taken to McKenzie Hospital in Sandusky for treatment of her injuries. The case highlights growing concerns about domestic violence in the community and underscores the importance of proper response from law enforcement and medical personnel. Community members are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspected domestic violence incidents promptly.
