Assault: Two Teenagers Charged in Disturbing Walgreens Bathroom Attack in Naperville

Naperville, Illinois — Authorities have charged two teenage boys following an alarming incident of sexual violence that unfolded inside a Walgreens restroom on Sunday afternoon. The attack, which reportedly involved the assault of a female acquaintance, has garnered significant attention due to its disturbing nature.

According to police reports, 17-year-old James Patterson and a 15-year-old boy, both residents of Lisle, were implicated in the assault that occurred at approximately 3 p.m. inside the Walgreens located at 713 East Ogden Avenue. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was in the bathroom when the two suspects entered.

Witness accounts and police findings suggest that Patterson physically restrained the victim, pushing her against a stall wall and removing her pants. Despite her protests, he allegedly continued the assault, even after she managed to momentarily escape his grip and regain her pants. The situation escalated when Patterson reportedly punched the victim multiple times before carrying out the sexual assault. The younger suspect is accused of recording parts of the attack and engaging in sexual misconduct as well.

After the attack, the victim informed store employees, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement. Despite fleeing the scene, both suspects were located by Naperville police nearby. Upon Patterson’s arrest, officers reportedly discovered the victim’s cellphone in his possession.

Charges against Patterson include four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and one count of robbery. The 15-year-old, whose name has not been released due to his status as a juvenile, faces multiple charges, including three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and additional counts related to child sexual abuse material.

Patterson’s case will move forward in adult court, where a judge has ordered him to be detained until his trial. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 2. The younger suspect is set to appear in court for a hearing on January 27.

This incident underscores ongoing concerns about youth crime and the urgent need for community discussions around safety and prevention in public spaces. Both the local community and authorities remain affected by the ramifications of such a violent event.
