Assaulted Woman Fights Back Against Gram Pradhan for Diwali Drinking and Violence

Lucknow, India – A village chief and his group allegedly attacked a woman in Amaniganj, Malihabad town, after she refused to let them drink alcohol and set off firecrackers near her home. The woman, Uma Yadav, filed a police complaint stating that after she stopped the men from drinking near her house on Diwali, they entered her home and physically assaulted her. When her family members tried to intervene, they were also attacked. The assailants even threatened to kill the woman before fleeing the scene, prompting her to report the incident to the Malihabad police station.

In response to the complaint, the accused individuals encountered Uma’s son, Mohit Yadav, and her nephews, Rahul and Abhishek, on their way back from the market and violently beat them with sticks. Mohit sustained severe head injuries and was taken to the trauma center, where he remains in critical condition. The main suspect, Shekhu alias Salim, is the head of the nearby Gram Panchayat Kasmandi Khurd, who the woman accused of firing gunshots and stealing Rahul’s gold chain during the altercation.

Police are currently investigating the incident, as both the woman and the accused have filed complaints at the Malihabad police station. Suresh Singh, the Station House Officer of Malihabad, confirmed that they are looking into the matter. The woman’s bravery in speaking out and seeking justice for the attacks highlights the importance of standing up against violence and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
