Assaulting Lancaster Man Sentenced to 5-10 Years for Attack on Woman and Children

LANCASTER, Pa. – James Edward Johnson, a 46-year-old man, was sentenced to five to 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty to assaulting a woman and two children while intoxicated in 2024.

Johnson’s sentencing came after he pleaded guilty to charges including strangulation, endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, criminal mischief, and aggravated assault in March. The incident occurred at a residence in the 800 block of Sterling Place in Lancaster Township, where Johnson, reportedly under the influence of alcohol and PCP, attacked the victims late at night on July 25, 2024.

The victims, including an adult woman and two minor children, sustained injuries during the assault. The woman had a large bruise above her eye and facial swelling, while the girl had facial swelling and a bruise on her chest, and the boy had bruises on his neck from being strangled. According to reports, the altercation began when Johnson threatened the adult woman and was about to physically attack her before one of the minors intervened.

Following a physical altercation, one of the minor victims managed to escape the residence and seek help from a neighbor to contact the police. Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick handled the prosecution of the case, ensuring that justice was served for the victims of Johnson’s violent actions.

The sentencing of Johnson to a lengthy prison term serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of domestic violence and child endangerment. It highlights the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions and providing support and protection for victims of such heinous acts. The legal system’s swift action in this case sends a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated in society.
