Attack in Co Antrim Leaves Man Nailed to Fence and Vehicles Torched in ‘Sinister’ Assault

Bushmills, Northern Ireland – A disturbing incident in Co Antrim has left a man with severe injuries after being nailed to a fence, sparking outrage and calls for justice. The brutal attack, which also involved the torching of two vehicles in Bushmills during the early hours of Sunday, has been condemned as “especially appalling.”

This distressing event marks the third violent assault in just over a year in the small village near the Giant’s Causeway. The victim, a man in his twenties, was discovered with nails through each hand, and two vans, one of which belonged to the injured party, were found ablaze in the car park near Dundarave Park.

Graffiti found on nearby public toilets has been linked to the assault and arson. Despite sustaining injuries to his nose, the victim’s condition is reported as not life-threatening, and he is currently receiving treatment in a hospital. The attack took place in a residential area close to holiday rentals, which would have been busy during the bank holiday weekend, according to police.

Describing the attack as “sinister,” a PSNI spokesperson emphasized that it has left the man with potentially life-altering injuries. The spokesperson further condemned the violence, stating that everyone has the right to live without fear of such brutality, and that there is no justification for the perpetrators’ actions.

Politicians and community leaders have also voiced their shock and disgust at the incident. Alliance North Antrim MLA Sian Mulholland labeled it as “especially appalling,” expressing her concern for the victim and denouncing the violence. Meanwhile, TUV leader Jim Allister conveyed his dismay at the cruel attack, highlighting the need for accountability and justice.

Authorities are urging any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage to come forward and assist in the investigation. The community is rallying together to support the victim and push for those responsible for this heinous act to be apprehended and brought to justice. Such acts of violence have no place in society and must be met with swift and decisive action.
